Intarsia is a knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colours. As with the woodworking technique of the same name fields of different colours and materials appear to be inlaid in one another but are in fact all separate pieces fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Unlike other multicolour techniques (including Fair Isle slip-stitch colour and double knitting) there is only one “active” colour on any given stitch and yarn is not carried across the back of the work; when a colour changes on a given row the old yarn is left hanging. This means that any intarsia piece is topologically several disjoint columns of colour; a simple blue circle on a white background involves one column of blue and two of white—one for the left and one for the right. Intarsia is most often worked flat rather than in the round. However it is possible to knit intarsia in circular knitting using particular techniques.

Common examples of intarsia include sweaters with large solid-colour features like fruits flowers or geometric shapes. Argyle socks and sweaters are normally done in intarsia although the thin diagonal lines are often overlaid in a later step using Swiss darning or sometimes just a simple backstitch.

Okay so there is this girl that i met last year at my new skool. lets call her Lauren. Well ever since i met Lauren she has lied about EVERYTHING. this year is worse than last year…she lies about her two best friends because i have two best friends. she lies that she has a boyfriend who lives in LA. she lies that she has four houses. and she copies me ALL THE TIME!! whatever i buy she will buy. so im trying to be unique at a school full of uniforms…i carry a huuuge tote bag [im the only one] and she tells her mom that EVERYONE has it and she has to get one…i wear my argyle knee high socks inside out and SHE BUYS THE SAME EXACT ONE. she pulls up her uniform skirt to be the same length as mine. she cut her hair into the same bob that i had 4 months ago. SHE EVEN LIED ABOUT GOING TRICK OR TREATING. who cares if you went trick or treating!!! i just need advice.

I realize that you have never heard or said that phrase EVER! (OK guys stop rolling your eyes. There is no right answer I know) I excel at quite a few things. I’m pretty self motivated enjoy fitness great cook great dad great fiancee on and on. Not to get carried away with tooting my own horn but I also realize my “areas of improvement”. Not the least of which is my fairly obvious inability to dress myself.
I have gotten quite a bit better thanks to the advice of my fashion maven daughter Molly. She (and her mom) have taught me that well crazy loud shirts only belong at Jimmy Buffet concerts running shoes should NEVER be worn with shorts unless you are running and my all time favorite don’t EVER wear dark socks while mowing the lawn in shorts.
